Unprecedented protests are continuing across Egypt, as demonstrators defy a government ban on public gatherings.

Those on the streets are protesting against the 30-year rule of Hosni Mubarak, the president.

Security forces have intensified their crackdown, advancing on crowds with batons, tear gas and even rubber bullets. Police say they have detained more than 800 people across the country.
