Amid the pain and misery in the moments after Haiti's magnitude 7.0 quake a year ago, a few incredible rescues lifted the spirits of many Haitians.

Al Jazeera reported on the story of one survivor, Nixon. He was just four when the quake struck the Caribbean nation on January 12, 2010.

Al Jazeera's Gordon Durnin, who was there when Nixon was first pulled out of the rubble, tracked down the little boy to a refugee camp where he has been living since the disaster, and who has become a symbol of hope for those around him. (Jan 12, 2010)
