Omar al Bashir, Sudan's president, recently sent a strong message asserting the south's legitimate right to hold its self-determination referendum on January 9 and ensured security for both sides in case unrest over disputes erupts.
But main opposition leaders in Khartoum, the capital, have expressed fears over a separation, saying it will not bring any good for either side.
