Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, has told Al Jazeera that he will not be signing any expensive players in the January transfer window despite the club recording a £56m profit in 2010.

In an interview with Lousie Potter, Wenger said he was "amazed" that people were surprised that he respected the clubs's budget and only paid what the team could afford

He said: "You look at the clubs who lose £100m or £150m and if we do that then we go bust. We pay what we can afford.

"I'm amazed that people are amazed that we do that. I think what is surprising is that people don't respect that."

The former Monaco manager also spoke about why Arsenal have not won a trophy in recent years and his development of young players.
