A Sri Lankan maid has claimed she was tortured by her Kuwaiti employers, who allegedly jammed 14 metal pins into her arms and legs after she asked for her wages.

The pins were removed from Lechchmi's body in a hospital in the Sri Lankan city of Kurunegala after two long operations.

The allegation is the latest in a series of abuse claims by Asian workers employed in the Arabian Gulf region.

In August, another Sri Lankan housemaid returned to the country with 24 nails driven into her body, saying her Saudi employers were responsible.

Al Jazeera's Minelle Fernandez reports from Kurunegala.
