(3BL Media) July 11, 2012 - Every year, 20,000 tons of trash enters D.C’s forgotten river-the Anacostia. Subaru and its partner, United By Blue, will be combating the Anacostia River’s trash problem with a river cleanup on Saturday, July 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 pm.
Volunteers will be supplied with free breakfast, lunch, bags, gloves, supplies, bug spray, and sunscreen; they just need to show up with helpful hands. Volunteers should meet at River Terrace Recreation Center located at Anacostia Ave NE in DC.
“We’ve hosted over 70 cleanups in two years and our Anacostia River cleanup has been one of the most memorable cleanups to date. Last year, we picked up almost 4,000 pounds of trash from along the river,” said Mike Cangi, UBB Director of Cleanups. “Now that we have our official cleanup vehicles, two Subaru Outbacks, I am confident we will be able to haul even more trash this time around.”
