At least one Afghan civilian is killed and 27 others wounded when insurgents fired three rockets at a government building in Farah province Saturday.
Young children were wounded in the attack.
A government spokesman describes what happened.
(SOUNDBITE) (Pashto) SPOKESMAN FOR FARAH GOVERNOR'S OFFICE, ABDUL RAHMAN ZHWANDI, SAYING:
"The enemies of our country fired three rockets targeting the governor's building. Fortunately their rocket failed to reach the target. Two rockets hit a wall of the governor's building and one hit the crowds in a bazaar. One woman was killed, 27 were wounded all the victims were civilians."
The attack coincides with the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's surprise visit to Afghanistan.
Washington declared Afghanistan a major non-NATO ally Saturday, a largely symbolic status reinforcing its message to Afghans that they will not be abandoned as the war winds down.
