California Getting More Energy-Efficient Car Choices - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.
More electric car models are set to hit the commercial market and potential buyers are ready to meet the supply. Four years ago the Tesla Roadster was the only electric car you could find for sale to consumers, but nearly a dozen new models will be available by the end of summer 2012. The new models range in price from 40 thousand dollars for the Ford Focus Electric, or up to 78,570 dollars for the Tesla Model S Sedan, or there’s the Honda Fit EV that can be leased for 389 dollars a month. There are rebates and tax incentives in California for purchases of an electric car, including funding from the Air Resources Board that amounts to 25 hundred dollars in rebates and a 75 hundred dollar federal tax credit for consumers in California. Around one thousand four hundred rebates have been issued so far as of mid-2011.
"California drivers responded even more enthusiastically than predicted to the advanced technology vehicles the car manufacturers are currently offering," said ARB Chairman Mary D. Nichols. “This is a wonderful problem to have, since it means the air will be getting cleaner and less gasoline will be burned."
