Relations between Turkey and Syria are unraveling as tensions grow between the two neighbours.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad told a Turkish newspaper that he wished Syrian forces had not shot down a Turkish fighter jet last month and that he would not allow tensions between the two countries to turn into open combat.
But some Turks feel his remorse is not good enough.
(SOUNDBITE) (Turkish) ISTANBUL RESIDENT, ATILLA BAYRAM SAYING:
"I don't accept this, they shot the plane down deliberately. Our government must take serious precautions. They must not get away with this. With the help of god, we will retaliate."
Ankara says there's been increased military activity along its southern border since the incident.
Six Turkish fighter jets were deployed Tuesday when Syrian helicopters were spotted a few miles away from the border.
