Air guitar aficionados struck a chord in New York.
Twenty-two contestants rocked their hearts out during the U.S. Air Guitar Championships.
Andrew Jackson Litz, a corporate event planner who performs under the alias "Seth Liebowitz", explains the secret to strumming success.
SOUNDBITE: Andrew Jackson Litz, air guitar contestant, saying (English):
"If you can get to the moment in the song where you truly believe that you are playing an air guitar, because if you can do that I feel like that will resonate with the crowd and they in that very moment of the song will in their mind say, "o my god, this guy is truly playing the air guitar," maybe the real guitar."
But Litz had tough competition from Matt Burns, aka "Aristotle".
SOUNDBITE: Matt Burns, air guitar contestant, saying (English):
"I started learning the guitar to get better at the air guitar. I wanted to learn where to put my fingers for certain chords and things like that. And it certainly helped."
And eight months pregnant, Marquina Iliev refused to let her belly bump her out of the competition.
SOUNBITE: Marquina Iliev, air guitar contestant, saying (English):
"I just knew I couldn't miss out this year. I figured at eight months I am still feeling good, and I am, I am just going to try. So it's on the fence until the end of it. I am good today."
For the second year in a row Aristotle struck the right note and will now compete at the national championships in Denver, Colorado.
The winner will go on to represent the United States at the World Championships in Finland on August 24th.
