Hundreds demonstrate against bank bailout

Hundreds of demonstrators filled the streets of Madrid Saturday to protest against Bankia, a nationalised bank requesting 19 billion euros in state aid.

Citizens banged pots and pans and held banners as they marched from Cuatro Caminos to the bank's headquarters.

Bankia is at the heart of Spain's banking crisis that forced the country to ask it's European neighbors for a 100 billion euro bailout.

The bank was nationalised less than a year after it was listed on the stock exchange. Investments of thousands of small shareholders were all but wiped out.
