Armstrong faces new doping charges

This is Lance Armstrong as he is best known - celebrating on the Tour De France podium after another success.

This win in 2005 was one of seven Tour de France titles that he picked up in an illustrious cycling career - but now all those awards are in jeopardy.

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency notified Armstrong that it will file new charges against the retired cyclist.

Armstrong released a statement on his website strongly denying the accusations.

In it he said the "charges were baseless and motivated by spite".

Armstrong pointed out that these are the same charges previously brought against him which the Justice Department chose not to pursue after a two year investigation.

The 40 year old also added that he has passed more than 500 drug tests without failing a single one.
