Online assessments are becoming increasingly useful to evaluate understanding of specific topics. In this context, we developed an e-learning tool to assess respondents’ awareness about energy consumption. Energy conservation is one of the key actions that has to be undertaken to mitigate the augmentation of population having access to energy and the depletion of energetic resources.
One particular aspect of energy consumption is the consumption of buildings (company buildings and private homes). In 2003 the average consumption of a building in France was 245 kWh//m2 for the year [1] and more than 30% of the heat loss was due to poor insulation of the walls and of the roof [2]. A direct consequence is an increasing interest of companies, and even private individuals, in energy audit.
From this observation we intended to develop a software to enable people to learn how to detect problems in their energy consumptions, which could be caused by bad habits or equipment failures. Although the solution can perfectly target the general public, we chose to focus first on the students undergoing tertiary education.
