Shirley MacLaine honored by AFI with lifetime award

Oscar-winning actress Shirley MacLaine was honored with the 40th American Film Institute Life Achievement Award at an "A-list" gathering on Thursday night (June 09) in Los Angeles.

Among the stars who arrived at Sony Pictures historical backlot for the elegant ceremony included MacLaine's little brother, Warren Beatty, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston.

The actress has carved out a long and iconic career in American cinema and has appeared in more than 50 feature films, including her Academy -Award winning performance for "Terms of Endearment."

"It was never any doubt in my mind that I would be in this business. I don't know why. I felt guided, I felt that it was aligned with my destiny to tell you the truth."

The AFI Life Achievement Award honors an individual whose career in motion pictures or television has greatly contributed to the enrichment of American culture.

TV Land will broadcast the 40th AFI Life Achievement Award tribute on June 24, 2012.
