Beth Ditto wants to get one thing straight, there's no spat with Karl Lagerfeld.

The Gossip singer was at a promotional event in Berlin on Tuesday (June 5), as the new face for cosmetics giant MAC.

She blames the media for exaggerating comments she made about the designer, with reports saying he was "not even sane".

The comment purportedly came after he called British singer Adele "fat".

Ditto refused to be drawn into the debate.

SOUNDBITE: Singer Beth Ditto, saying (English):

"I didn't have a spat with Karl Lagerfeld, actually. I just don't understand. I think the media is so ridiculous the way they have to turn everything into a fight. Just the way they decided .... I think people really wanted me to talk negatively about Karl Lagerfeld because the way he talked about Adele. And honestly, I just don't care."

The U.S.-born singer has always had a "loud and proud" attitude and hopes other people will too.

SOUNDBITE: Singer Beth Ditto, saying (English):

"You don't have to be a certain way to do what you want. The idea is like just not letting people tell you what beauty is, and you deciding for yourself. And doing something like MAC makes that little bit easier to to be a fat person. And to look weird. And have yellow teeth. And red eyes."

The fashion muse said she would consider launching her own clothing label, following on from her plus-size Evans line, which launched in 2007.
