Montreal Police Commander Ian Lafreniere confirmed the arrest.

"I am extremely happy to tell you that the suspect has been apprehended, But this is far from over."
Interpol issued an arrest warrant last week for Magnotta, who faces first degree murder charges over the videotaped death of the student, whose body parts were mailed to political parties in the Canadian capital Ottawa.
Montreal police found a bloody mattress and pools of blood on the floor and in the refrigerator in Magnotta's apartment. The police said a janitor found a torso with no head or limbs in a suitcase in an alley behind the building.
He is believed to have entered France in late May -- and French police had been investigating thousands of reported sightings.
Magnotta was found Monday in a cafe on Karl Marx Strasse in Berlin. The 29-year-old left a bizarre Internet trail as an alleged kitten-killer and bisexual porn star.
