A senior Syrian official reassures the U.N. mission in his country that the authorities had nothing to hide and that he hopes the observers' truce work would be rewarded.

Damascus governor Bishr al-Sabban.

"The delegation gave us every assurance about making this mission successful. We also gave them all support and assurances because we say that the rightful people have nothing to hide. We hope their mission succeeds and achieves something. We just want them to report what they see in the street. We hope they talk to everybody and not just one party. They promised us to do so."

A UN backed ceasefire was announced in April. The UN is now blaming both sides for violating the ceasefire and has called for an end to the violence for the sake of Syria.

Over the weekend, Syrian rebels killed at least 80 army soldiers in a surge of attacks according to activists.
