Obama vows action on immigration

Barack Obama, the US president, has made his first major speech on immigration reform since taking office, challenging Congress to get past "political posturing" and make a bipartisan effort to pass reform.

Obama spoke one month before a controversial new citizenship law takes effect in the state of Arizona, giving police broad powers to detain anyone suspected of being in the US illegally.
