This year NTD Television is holding its 5th Classical Chinese Dance Competition from June through July. Past winners speak about the essence of classical Chinese dance. The winners include dancers from the Shen Yun Performing Arts—and they talk about their experience at the competition.
As NTD Television is gearing up for its 5th International Classical Chinese Dance Competition, winners of previous years' competitions share their thoughts. They speak about their experience of the competition.
Many of the winners are members of Shen Yun Performing Arts, a classical Chinese dance and music company based in New York.
Shen Yun lead dancer Faustina Quach talks about the rigorous training.

The US-born classical Chinese dancer won the silver award in the junior division in 2010... despite spraining her ankle a week before the competition.
Quach spoke about how she felt during the competition.
[Faustina Quash, Shen Yun Lead Dancer]:
"I was nervous at first and a little scared but on stage I tried to just forget everything, and just tried to be 'Chang-er,' flying."

Shen Yun principal male dancer Tim Wu talks about the role of NTD's dance competition.
[Tim Wu, Shen Yun Principal Dancer]:
"NTD's classical dance competition is purely Chinese classical dance and those are the requirements. It's really bringing a runners-on of Chinese culture to the whole world."
Wu won the bronze medal in the men's division of NTD's first dance competition.

The first rounds of classical dance competition will be in June and July—with the finals and award ceremony to be held in New York in late October.
