British PM faces poll slide over budget deficit

2012-05-29 4

Britain's government has rejected calls by the European Commission to cut its budget deficit.

According to a leaked report due to be released on Wednesday, the EC will warn that the UK is failing to reduce its debt in line with European Union standards.

The announcement is likely to further damage the popularity of Gordon Brown, the British prime minister ahead of elections expected to be held in May.
