US panel mulls Afghanistan troop boost - 26 Oct 09

The US president and his national security team have held a sixth meeting at the White House to examine future strategy in Afghanistan.

Barack Obama and his team are looking at a proposal to send about 40,000 extra troops to
Afghanistan, as requested by General Stanley McChrystal, the senior commander of US and Nato
forces in Afghanistan.

John Kerry, the chair of the foreign relations committee in the US senate, has also supported
the call for more troops to be deployed - if the conditions are right. Rosiland Jordan explains.
