The ancient city of Rome is about to impose a new tax on visitors starting January 1, 2011.

Recent collapses at the Colosseum, Nero's Golden Palace and in Pompei grabbed world news headlines.

Officials say "accommodation tax" will help pay toward efforts to stopping the city's famous heritage from crumbling away.
