Leading prostate cancer expert, Dr. David Samadi, expresses concern over the prevalence of sugar in our diets. While it is recommended that we consume only 6-8 teaspoons of sugar per day, most Americans are actually consuming 30-40 teaspoons per day. Sugar does not cause diabetes, explains Dr. Samadi, but it does cause weight problems and obesity that can lead to diabetes. He encourages viewers to read nutrition labels carefully as sugar is hidden in many foods you may not suspect such as salad dressing, bread, and cereals. Dr. Samadi advises us to avoid food ingredients that end in “ose” such as fructose, dextrose, sucrose, and high fructose corn syrup.
