Starting next year, judo and other martial arts will be compulsory in schools across Japan.

The government says the program will help preserve the country's national sport. But parents are worried.

In the past thirty years, at least 114 students have died and another 261 have been seriously injured while practising Judo. According to experts, this is five times higher than any other major sport.

Al Jazeera's Steve Chao reports from Osaka, Japan.
