The first and last men to walk on the moon have labelled the new space programme introduced by Barack Obama, the US president, a mission to nowhere.
Obama had announced plans to cancel Nasa's Constellation programme, which will end US plans for future exploration of the moon.
Instead, the focus will shift to building a space craft that can take astronauts to Mars.
But that is a vision not shared by some pioneers of the US space programme.
