Enchey Monastery of Sikkim is situated in Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim, India. Situated on a hill top, the Enchey Monastery was built during the reign of Thutob Namgyal. The Enchey Monastery is an important seat of the Nyingma order. The Sikkim Enchey Monastery is built on the location blessed by Lama Druptob Karpo, a tantric master known for his power of flying. This 200 year old Enchey Monastery houses many images of Gods, Goddesses and other religious objects within its complex.
According to the Nyingma order, Enchey Monastery has around 90 monks. The annual Puja is celebrated with dances on the 18th & 19th days of the twelfth month of the lunar calendar.
Every year in the month of January "Chaam" ( a religious masked dance) is performed at this monastery of Sikkim.
It is believed that, Lama Drupthob Karpa had built a small hermitage at the site, where he reached after he flew from Maenam Hill in South Sikkim. Later during the reign of Sikyong Tulku (1909-1910), the present monastery was built in the shape of a Chinese Pagoda.
