It's official: France's new president is none other than Francois Hollande.
But Parisians waking up to the news were divided about Hollande's ability to fix the nation's many ailments amid the euro crisis.
Some are pleased the country elected its first socialist head of state in 17 years.
(SOUNDBITE) (French) UNIVERSITY LECTURER, BERNARD SAYING:
"For us, for France, it's an opportunity especially for education and health to try and correct social imbalances and poverty in society so we are happy but it's going to be difficult given the current crisis and I believe that it will make us feel better. For those who work in the social sector, who help others, there is solidarity so we hope to have more financial means."
Others worry that Hollande will risk France's relationship with Germany and Chancellor Angela Merkel as he pushes back against a swath of German-led austerity policies.
But in Hollande's hometown of Tulle, residents are more optimistic.
(SOUNDBITE) (French) TULLE RESIDENT FRANCOIS RUILLON SAYING:
"Yesterday, I told him: you are going to win! He is an extraordinary man, you will see: France will change, Europe will change, the world will change. He is president as he is in life: a great man."
The president elect narrowly defeated incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy with 51.7 percent of the vote.
