Iraq is set to hold crucial provincial elections on Saturday, with more than 14,400 candidates competing for 444 seats.
Many Iraqis had voted on religious lines during national elections in 2005.
But as Al Jazeera's Anita McNaught reports from the Iraqi town of Irbil, that is beginning to change four years on.
