He is licensed to practice law in the State Courts of Texas and the Federal Courts of the Eastern, Northern, and Western Districts of Texas. In 1998 he was awarded the Justice Norvell Memorial Award and in 2004 he was the Republican nominee for District Judge. He is Vice-President of the Central Texas Bankruptcy Bar, a member of the State Bar of Texas: Solo and General Practice Section, Family Law Section, and Bankruptcy Section, NACBA: the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, Waco-McLennan County Bar Association, and McLennan County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.
