Spears may join "X Factor," Lionel Richie tops charts

Britney Spears is close to signing a deal to be on the next season of the U.S. version of "X Factor" - this according to online tabloid TMZ. TMZ reports that Spears has been locked down, and only the fine points of the deal are being negotiated. Rumors are that Spears will get 15 million dollars for her participation.

Lionel Richie's "Tuskegee" album has claimed the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 129,000 copies. It's the pop icon's third number one album -- and his first since 1986's "Dancing on the Ceiling."

Nicollette Sheridan will get another chance to face off against the creator of "Desperate Housewives" in a wrongful termination lawsuit. A judge has approved the case for retrial - the first attempt last month ended in a mistrial. A court date has been set for September 10.

Finally, the Tribeca Film Festival launched in New York with an A-list packed party. Co-founder of the fest, Robert DeNiro posed for photos. The party also drew Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas, Billy Crystal, and Demian Bichir.
