The campaigns to select the nominees for US President are heating up. For the Democrats, South Carolina's primary Saturday, is the next big test. One community being courted for votes is the Gullah community from the Southern coast of the state. It consists of black Americans who trace their lineage directly to West Africa and who continue to keep African customs in their daily lives.
Al Jazeera spoke with Robert Middleton, an elder in the community, about his roots, and his take on the upcoming election.
