Exploration and imaginative playfulness of stage form is one of the basic characteristics of Frljic’s directorial procedure in the play When Father Was Away on Business, realised obviously without nostalgic reminiscences of Kusturica’s classic film. Dealing with the private historical perspective, the director, on the plane of meaning, leaves mainly open questions of numerous political implications of such a complex and painful historical theme like Informbiro, unambiguous crimes of a one-party system that certainly does not deserve a simplification, but whose dark sides could rightfully become the subject of serious social and historical debates.
