North Korean leader Kim Jong-un attended the opening of a newly-built military museum seen as an effort to strengthen the new leadership's "military-first" policies, after its rocket launch failure.

North Korea acknowledged that its much-hyped long-range rocket launch on Friday (April 13) failed. The United States and Japan said the rocket crashed into the sea after travelling a much shorter distance than a previous North Korean launch.

The North's state-television KRT on Monday (April 16) broadcasted a video of Kim looking at the exhibitions .

The state media said the opening was held on Saturday (April 14).

KRT said thousands of tanks, artilleries, naval vessels and strategic rockets were displayed at the mu seum.

Following the embarrassment of the failed launch, the isolated North is now widely expected to press ahead with its third nuclear test.
