China's Communist Party is kicking out a controversial politician from its top ranks, and has detained his wife in connection with the murder of a British businessman.
Communist officials say Bo Xilai (bo-zhee lie) committed disciplinary violations, and have removed him from his posts within the party.
Separately, Bo's wife Gu Kailai (goo ki-lie) is being investigated for the murder of British businessman Neil Heywood.
China's state news agency says that Bo and his wife have been detained by authorities.
The news agency says Heywood's death was a homicide, and listed Bo's wife and a household assistant as suspects.
Bo had widely been seen as pressing for a top post in China's next leadership.
