Rockmat, the foundation for rocky seabed - offshore wind energy, current and tidal turbine

2012-04-10 2

ROCKMAT is an innovative and patented concept of offshore wind foundations adapted to rocky or uneven seabeds.

With no site preparation or drilling, ROCKMAT is a lower cost solution that can be implemented using only the local industry and at no cost to the marine environment.

ROCKMAT is a self-floating foundation, lowered by hydrodynamic ballast. Accurate leveling is achieved by a system of underwater jacks. Concrete is injected in flexible cofferdams bags to fill in seabed irregularities of 1 meter, eliminating the need for site preparation.

BENEFITS
* No seabed preparation
* No costly lifting operation
* No need to core boreholes, except in special cases
* The construction can be performed by the local industry
* Easy decommissioning by an air injection into the caisson
* No environmental impact on the seabed
* Structure can be reused/moved
