Pope Benedict XVI bid farewell to Cuba on Wednesday (March 28) after a three-day visit during which the pontiff honoured the country's patron, held two open-air masses and met with both President Raul Castro and Cuba's former leader, Fidel Castro.
Under cloudy skies and a light rain, the pontiff travelled to the airport in the popemobile while hundreds of Cubans waved to him as he passed.
Pope Benedict urged Cubans to move forward despite references that seem to highlight obstacles both from their own country and the U.S. embargo against Cuba.
The pope wrapped up by saying that unity would resolve any difficulties.
