In Athens, coastguard teams worked to retrieve the body of a man who drove his car off the main commercial port, killing himself.
Witnesses say the saw the man, who was in a black Mercedes, suddenly rev his engine and head straight for the water.
According to police, the man had an import business with debts in the area of two and a half million dollars. The number of incidents involving people in financial distress has erupted over the past year as Greece struggles with a debt crisis and record level unemployment.
