STORY: U.S. President Barack Obama toasted St. Patrick's Day on Saturday (March 17) with a pint of Guinness at a local Irish pub.

The presidential motorcade pulled up outside a the Dubliner Restaurant and Pub, near Washington's Union Station, and Obama shook hands with revelers in bright green hats, clothes and wigs before sipping a pint Dublin's famous black brew.

At the White House, the fountain on the South Lawn flowed green to mark the day.

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated every 17 March, with revelers sporting green attire, drinking Guinness, listening to traditional music and attending parades in honor of the saint who played an important role in converting Ireland to Christianity.
