Carpal tunnel syndrome happens when the tissues surrounding the flexor tendons in the wrist become swollen putting pressure on the median nerve. These tissues (synovium) lubricate the tendons which help to move the fingers.
This swelling of these tissues (synovium) narrows the confined space of the carpal tunnel, which may eventually crowd the nerve.
