When Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke told Congress the government should pay for birth control, right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh flew into a rage and called Fluke a "slut."

Last week Limbaugh told his radio audience: "Who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex — what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex."

Later on his show Limbaugh said "So, Ms. Fluke and the rest of you feminazis, here's the deal: If we are going to pay for your contraceptives and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it. And I'll tell you what it is. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch." (The comments have been excised from online transcripts for Limbaugh's show.)

Limbaugh's horrid attack offended people of all political stripes. Advertisers fled, and Limbaugh has apologized.

Despite his apology, mainstream media outlets have rounded on Limbaugh. Yet misogyny from media figures on the left — such as Bill Maher and Matt Taibbi — seems to fly under the radar.

Is it easier for media figures on the left to say sexist things about women and get away with it? Or are the things Limbaugh has said about women really that much worse?
