Mexican cartel sows choas in Gaudalajara

Flames engulf a truck in the Mexican city of Guadalajara.

The blaze was set by gunmen from a drug cartel and was part of an effort to paralyze traffic across this city of 4.5 million.

It came just hours after the Mexican army arrested an alleged narcotics kingpin - Erik Valencia Salazar.

The raid was part of a campaign by Mexico's leaders to stamp out the illegal narcotics trade and the violence that comes with it.

Last november, cartel members killed 26 people and dumped their bodies in the centre of Gaudalajara.

And about 50,000 people have died in drug-related violence in Mexico over the last five years.
