Hundreds evacuated in flood-hit Australia

Floodwaters continue to wreak havoc in eastern Australia.

The town of Forbes, in the central western part of New South Wales, is the latest settlement hit by the deluge.

A local river is on the rise, and is expected to peak at over 10 metres.

Local media said state emergency services have asked local residents to leave their homes.

In the town of Griffith, which has a population of about 25 thousand, hundreds have already been evacuated.

The heaviest rain in 38 years has swamped farmland in the town known for its grapes and cotton.

Meteorologists say the flooding that's been sweeping across eastern Australia is the result of the La Niña weather pattern.
