Missouri Jazz Band - Slow River

This pseudonym was used by several bands, but in this case it appears to refer to George Hall, whose career started when he recorded in 1927, as George Hall's Arcadians. This band contiued to play in various New York hotels until the depression took its toll in the late 20s and early 30s. His 1927-1928 recordings featured vocals on occasion by Scrappy Lambert, Fred Wilson, Leroy Montesanto, and Irving Kaufman. While playing at New York's Taft Hotel, Hall got a recording contract with the Bluebird label. During his long stay at the Taft, his band got good radio coverage, and he began a talent for featuring excellent vocalists with the band. Hall continued to record many of the popular songs of the 1930's. This, however is one of his earliest recordings, with a great vocal by Harold 'Scrappy' Lambert. I apologize for the slightly dimmed sound, due to the poor shape of the disc copy. Since this is a rarely heard song, I nevertheless decided to share it.
