Floodwaters grip eastern Australia

Eastern Australia.

Fast-moving floodwaters have trapped this truck in a creek.

And on the hood - a dog.

Police eventually rescue the canine, who spent 14 hours trapped in the middle of the raging waters.

But others weren't as lucky.

One man who was riding in the truck died after he was swept downstream by current.

It was part of worsening crisis in Australia, where floodwaters have threatened several towns, including this one, Wagga Wagga.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED LOCAL RESIDENT SAYING:

"We've just been sitting here watching the water come slowly flooding in, very gently. We feel like we're in Venice."

Another town, called the Rock, has been cut off from the outide world, and can only be accessed by helicopter.

Local news reports preparations are underway to evacuate people as flood levels continue to rise.
