France's The Artist has won best motion picture at the Oscars in Los Angeles.
It is the first silent film to win the award since the inaugural Oscars ceremony in 1929.
The man who shot the film, Michel Hazanavicius, won the award for best director.
The Artist's male lead Jean Dujardin picked up the gong for best actor.
