Hoping to tap Asian talent, he prestigious Joffrey Ballet School held its first auditions in Hong Kong.

Prospective students were given a one and a half hour master class by Joffrey artistic director and former San Francisco Ballet principal dancer, Alice Alyse, and judged on technical ability, musicality and their perceived potential.

[Alice Alyse, Artistic Director, Joffrey Ballet School]:
"There were some very talented students. I was very happy with the turn out. I think they really liked the class because it was something different. You know, it's the American way of instruction. It's working towards helping the dancer be more towards the professional, so that they can work with different choreographers. You know, they move a lot faster than just technique class."

Graduates of the Joffrey Ballet School have gone on to dance for major classical ballet companies, as well as for numerous modern and contemporary companies, both in the United States and abroad.
