Members of India's main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party boarded a ferry to stage this protest over the shooting of two Indian fishermen by the crew of an Italian tanker who mistook them for pirates.

The protesters took the boat out close to the Enrica Lexie whose crew is facing murder charges over the deaths.

They say are accusing the Indian government of failing to take concrete action over the incident, blaming the federal leadership in New Delhi.

The shooting happened on Wednesday (February 15) when a navy security team opened fire on the fishermen's boat off the coast of Kerala, officials said.

The Italian navy said the fishing boat had approached the Napoli-registered Enrica Lexie in an aggressive manner

Italy's ambassador was called to a meeting at the Foreign Office to explain what happened and was also asked to ensure the crew co-operated with Indian authorities.
