Libyans prepare for revolt annniversary

Libyans are preparing for the first anniversary of the start of the revolution.

It's been one year since the country's uprising, which saw the overthrow and death of long-time leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Celebrations are planned for February 17.

The National Transitional Council fighters has increased security in Tripoli and Benghazi.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) NTC FIGHTER NAMED AL-ASSAID, SAYING:

"There are fears or shall I say people say there are fears from Gaddafi loyalists, or from others who are trying to destabilise the security of the country. We are ready for them and we have truly secured the country. We tell the people, go out, celebrate and feel the joy that you waited 42 years for."

Stage is being set up, with street lamps fixed and road barriers re-painted.

Checkpoints were reportedly erected in the city in an attempt to prevent possible bomb attacks.
