SONGKHLA, Feb 13 – The lawyer of well-known labour activist Somyot Prueksakasemsuk said his client has been mistreated and called for fair treatment of his client after a witness for the plaintiff in the activist’s lese majeste case failed to appear at court in Songkhla Monday.

Mr Somyot is on trial accused of breaking Article 112 of Thailand’s Criminal Code, the so-called ‘Lese Majeste’ law. He has been in prison since April 30, 2011 and has been moved from city to city across Thailand for a series of prosecution witness hearings.

The accused appeared at Songkhla provincial court Monday but the witness for the plaintiff, Chawan Saeyae, did not appear at court.

Instead he informed the court that he now lives in Pathum Thani where he is a Thammasat University student at its Rangsit Campus. He said he is ready to give a statement at the Criminal Court in Ratchapisek Road in Bangkok.
