Adverse weather conditions have increased the slippage of the wrecked cruise liner Costa Concordia, but salvage workers say they are not concerned and remain optimistic to resume halted operations by Tuesday (February 14).

Snowfall and rough seas over the past days have brought operations on the cruise liner to a standstill.

Salvage crews had hoped to start pumping more than 2,300 tonnes of diesel from the wreck already last week, but the bad weather has delayed the start of operations expected to take between three weeks and a month.

Experts from the University of Florence continue monitoring the movements of the ship which lies half-submerged, just metres from shore on a rock shelf.

The 290 meter-long ship capsized and foundered close to the Tuscan island of Giglio on January 13 after its struck a rock which tore a large gash in its hull. At least 17 people died in the accident and 15 others are still missing.
